I think this is the same version.

Comment – There is a bullet point next to “Home” on spiritpost.com. This is a custom menu. I have a similar menu on spiritpost.com/squared, using the regular 2010 theme which does not have a bullet point next to the main menu.

Question – Why doesn’t this theme show up on WP.org, enabling it to be easily updated?

I have been trying to make a child theme of bp-twentyten. But it seems like WordPress won’t accept this kind of tweaking since WordPress just says that the parent theme doesn’t exists.

Do any of you know how to get around this error?

I’m new to WP and BP and am finding my way around slowly. I have successfully implemented WP3.0 with Thematic and have been able to set up a child theme and make a few modifications.

My problems start when I introduce BPand Buddymatic into the mix…

I’m starting with a clean WP3.0 installation, installing BP, changing the permalinks, and then installing the default BP theme. Everything works. Then I install and activate Buddymatic and I find that several of the pages that worked under the default theme simply don’t work in Buddymatic.

For example, when I select members under the default theme the url is http://mydomain.com/members and this works. If I activate Buddymatic it trys to find http://mydomain.com/members but then simply redirects to the home page – http://mydomain.com/

This happens to every page I try to select except those I’ve created myself in the dashboard. I’m sure this must be a simple setting I’m missing somewhere, but after searching for hours I’m still stuck.

I set up a local development environment to see if I could get things working there but I have exacly the same issue.

This is a real disappointment for me. It really looks like Buddymatic would provide the ideal starting point for me to learn more. I can’t believe that it doesn’t work out of the box, so I assume I’m missing a really simple but vital step.

The other thing I have found is that the redirection to the home page only happens in Firefox – I noticed that in IE I get 404 not found instead.

I’ve tried asking in some of the other forums but have had no help yet. I’d really appreciate any help you could give me.

install WordPress 3.0 and enable the network (http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network), you will already have the TwentyTen theme installed and you will be able to use the Group Blog plugin.

I’m not sure what you mean by WPBP. In addition to WordPress, you also need to install BuddyPress.

3. Do I install TwentyTen and then install TwentyTen BP?

See answer to #1. If you want to use TwentyTen with BP then you need the TwentyTen BP child theme.

4. Do I need WildCard DNS on my server to run the above?

Only if you run a subdomain network. If you choose subdirectories when installing the WP network, then you don’t need wildcard subdomain support.

After 3 days and nights of installing, modifying, deleting, uninstalling, installing again, and round and round and around, I am hoping that someone here can save me from this set-up nightmare.

Although I have a very good plugin-rich WP site, I am very new to all Buddypress things. I am trying to set up a BP site for a community group I run, and am struggling with the basics. We have to move our site from Ning because they’re going to start charging on 20th July. I’ve been delegated to create our new home, and since I know WP reasonably well, I’m struggling so bad with Buddypress.

I have a couple of simple questions that when answered, I think I’ll be able to continue on by myself, but until I get answers, I’m just so stuck.

So, if you can help me with these, I’ll be eternally indebted to you

1. Do I need to run WordPress MU to have BP-Groupblogs work?
2. If yes, do I need WPMU and WPBP installed, or just one, and if so, which one?
3. Do I install TwentyTen and then install TwentyTen BP?
4. Do I need WildCard DNS on my server to run the above?

So, basically, I think I need a step-by-step to installing BP and it’s basic themes (TwentyTen looks good) and the necessary plugins that I need to run a site that allows for group blogs too.
